This love sonnet is certainly one of my favorite poems. “Amor é fogo que arde sem se ver” (Love is a fire that burns without being seen) is not only an intriguing title for it, but also a catchphrase. This literary work immediately comes to mind when thinking about Luís de Camões, the prominent Portuguese poet of the 16th Century. Its verses and stanzas are among the most paradoxical ones I have ever read. In nearly every line, Camões contradicts himself, while trying to define “love.”
